Hand Drumming Spirit

Workshop Dates:Sat July 4, 2009

Workshop Fees:$75 + $5 Drum rental

Workshop #:WS0907-12

Workshop Time:9:30 to 3:30

Workshop Description:Spend a wonderful day on Denman drumming up your spirit. Research has shown that the primal rhythm of the drum is therapeutic in nature. It impacts people in different ways depending on each person's specific needs and circumstances. Hand drumming can be energizing, provide stress relief and help people express individuality and explore creativity. For all who try it, hand drumming is fun and a great experience.

No prior drumming experience is required for this workshop, designed for beginner and intermediate hand drummers. Participants can either bring their own drums or use the hand drums (Djembe) provided.

You'll begin by learning how to tune up (tighten) a hand drum. Specific West-African rhythms will be taught teaching various ways to play the drum. Shakers, bells and the Djun Djun drum will also be incorporated into the mix. There will be lots of drumming and perhaps, a little singing.
