Course Description:The art of mosaics is as versatile as it is ancient. Today’s mosaics encompass a wide range of technique possibilities. No longer just using the traditional materials such as were used in ancient Rome - we have now taken the medium to many different levels and are using a multitude of materials.
Pique-assiette mosaics employ broken bits of pottery and glass to create one of a kind originals, also used today are bamboo, rock, shell and any found object that can be incorporated into this art form. This workshop will go one step past the conventional and explore indoor as well as outdoor mosaics and a wide variety of grouting and adhesive techniques.
The Instructors will provide:
- A surface for a finished work to be made
- stained glass
- silicone glue & dispensers
- spatulas
- nippers
- cleaning blade
- masking tape
- examples of work

Cheryl Jacobs and Sudasi Gardner
Cheryl Jacobs is a well-known jeweler and teacher. She spent 3 years apprenticed to a goldsmith in San Francisco, before starting her own company in 1987. Her jewelry is sold in exclusive galleries and boutiques across Canada and in California.
Cheryl is also passionate about the art of Mosaic and creates one-of-a-kind contemporary mosaics for the house and 3 dimensional mosaics for the garden.
Sudasi Gardner is an artist working in a variety of fields including mosaic, painting and weaving. Her work may be seen at Gallerie Deya on Denman Island.
