Course Description:This intensive two-day mixed media workshop with artist Cathy Stoyko explores the unlimited potential and possibilities of mixed media art and it's many applications for painting, collage, visual journaling, mail art, Artist Trading Cards, 3D assemblage work, and altered art. The workshop is an opportunity to play and experiment. You will learn techniques for preparing surfaces, to create texture, use text, simple printmaking methods, image transferring techniques, incorporating fabric, working with bees wax, attaching 3D elements, and more.
The $15 materials fee includes a collage package and booklet to take home, and use of paints, mediums, collage materials, and hand tools to use in class.
Participants should bring:
- exacto knife
- scissors
- pens and markers
- note book
- glue stick
- a variety of paint brushes
- lunch (or plan to eat at one of the nearby cafes)
Optional: Various collage images and bits of ephemera that attract you, such as:
- blk/wht and colour photo copies
- old letters
- labels
- discarded drawings
- buttons, charms, keys
- organic materials
- scraps of fabric
- bits of metal
The instructor will also have an assortment of all of these things available for you to use in class.

Cathy Stoyko
Cathy Stoyko is a mixed media artist & dancer. She is passionate about teaching and encouraging others to trust their creative insight.
Cathy studied art at Langara College, La Bellas Artes in Mexico, and at Emily Carr College and has been showing her work for the past 14 years in solo and group exhibitions.
She currently works with paint, collage, altered books, shrines, shadow boxes, and Artist Trading Cards.
