Basketry 101

Course Description:
This course is for those of you who have never made a basket but have been inspired by those you have!
We will work with two techniques - wickerwork and rib construction and learn the very basics for making a variety of baskets, trays and bowls. Working primarily with rattan, you'll develop skills that can be translated into many other materials.
You'll learn about shaping and patterns with plenty ofopportunity to develop your own unique style.
Tools required:
- a pair of sharp hand-held pruning shears
- scissors
- ruler
- an old towel
- a dish pan or 5 gallon pail to soak materials in
Optional - clips, clamps, awl, small needle-nose pliers

Cynthia Minden
Cynthia Minden works in mixed media sculpture, using basketry techniques, among others.
She has been teaching basketry for the past 20 years in workshops for guilds, galleries and art schools. Her work is exhibited in Canada and the US.
